One-Point Perspective

Grade Level: 5th Grade

Objectives:

The student will create a drawing in one-point perspective.

The student will identify the characteristics of artworks and artists from different periods of time, styles, and cultures.

Duration of the Lesson: three 40-minute sessions

Materials:

One-point perspective handout

9 x 12 manilla drawing paper

Procedure:

  1. Students will explore Leonardo da Vinci web sites.
  1. After viewing the web sites discuss what the students have learned.
  1. View a reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci’s "The Last Supper".
  2. Discuss da Vinci’s use of space in the painting.
  1. Discuss the components of linear perspective.
  1. Guided practice: (see student handout for details)
  1. Independent practice: Students will use one-point perspective to a building.

EVALUATION:

After exploring the web sites, the student will have a better understanding of Leonardo da Vinci’s role during the High Renaissance period.

The students will draw a building using one-point perspective correctly. (100pts)

 

West Virginia Instructional Goals and Objectives:

5.9 create a drawing in one-point perspective.

5.19 identify the characteristics of artworks and artists from different periods of time, styles, and cultures.
