The student will identify the characteristics of artworks and artists from different periods of time, styles, and cultures.

1. Students will explore Leonardo da Vinci web sites.

1. After viewing the web sites discuss what the students have learned.

• Who was Leonardo da Vinci?
• What roles did da Vinci play during his lifetime?
• Why was Leonardo da Vinci so important during the High Renaissance period?

1. View a reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci’s "The Last Supper".
2. Discuss da Vinci’s use of space in the painting.

• Placement of objects
• Objects farther away appear smaller
• Linear perspective

1. Discuss the components of linear perspective.

• Horizon line
• View point (vanishing point)
• Orthogonal lines

1. Guided practice: (see student handout for details)

• Students will draw a horizon line across their paper.
• Draw a vanishing point on the horizon line.
• Draw a square or rectangle below the horizon line.
• Draw the orthogonals from the corners of the shape to the vanishing point.
• Draw a horizontal line to end your form.
• Draw a vertical line to make the form’s side.
• Erase the orthogonals.

1. Independent practice: Students will use one-point perspective to a building.

• Draw at least one building.
• Add doors
• Add windows

After exploring the web sites, the student will have a better understanding of Leonardo da Vinci’s role during the High Renaissance period.

The students will draw a building using one-point perspective correctly. (100pts)
