Inventing New Ideas

 

 

Grade Level: 5th Grade

Subject: Art

Learner Outcomes:

The learner will invent a new machine for the 21st century.

The learner will draw a diagram of his/her idea.

The learner will describe how the invention will work.

Time Frame: one 40-minute class period

Materials: 12" x 18" manilla drawing paper, ruler, compass

Teacher Notes:

Procedure:

  1. Review what the students learned from the previous class. Discuss the information from the Exploring Leonardo.
  2. Discuss Leonardo da Vinci’s role as an inventor.
  1. Students will be working in groups of two. Have the students pick a partner or assign pairs ahead of time.
  2. The students will work with their partner to draw a diagram of a new machine for the 21st century.
  3. After completing the diagram, each group will describe their invention.

Modifications:

Determine specific needs of students having Individualized Education Plans.
